I have had the opportunity of working with Dr Duncan Burns of Forthcoming Publications on several books published with different publishers. I am pleased to say that the type-setting and copy-editing of the manuscripts was carried with much creativity and competency. Though they were long and complex volumes, dealing with a myriad of textual and linguistic issues in multiple ancient languages, the work was carried out diligently and efficiently, producing books which met both his and my high standards. I am certain that other authors and publishers who have not yet used the services of Dr Burns will find much comfort in his excellent eye for detail.

The reputation of Duncan Burns goes before him and so I was delighted when I heard that he would be copy-editing my Ezekiel commentary. I had been told that the quality of his editorial and production activities was second to none. He not only lived up to this reputationå ³urpassed it. I especially appreciated his intelligent and critical understanding of biblical studies and his detailed knowledge of ancient languages, skills not to be assumed in a copy-editor. He was brisk and yet highly accurate and efficient. He was consistent in following house style and yet willing to deviate to accommodate a special case. I was particularly impressed when, near the end of the process, we were chasing some esoteric and elusive bibliographical details, and in some cases they would quietly appear in the manuscript as if by magic. Communication by email was excellent and immediate, and the transmission of various recensions of the manuscript went without a hitch. Duncan Burns proved, in a word, indefatigable. I recommend him to other authors warmly and without reservation.

It has been a real treat to be copy-edited by someone who both understands the material and is also sympathetic to the sensitivities of an author and so does not force conformity to some pre-arranged template regardless of alternative possibilities. The manuscript was long and complex, but Duncan Burns of Forthcoming Publications reduced it all to a consistent order that has resulted in a book to be proud of.

Duncan Burns of Forthcoming Publications has been a godsend. In preparing a long complex manuscript for publication he has worked with extraordinary professionalism and patience. He came up with valuable ideas of his own but he was also ready to listen to objections and counterproposals. He gave the manuscript fresh life.

Duncan Burns of Forthcoming Publications has done an extraordinarily fine editorial job in preparing my manuscript, Jerusalem in Ancient History and Tradition. Copy-editing, formatting the manuscript, checking footnotes, biblical references, consistency of argumentation—he has provided a professional service that is exceptional and competent. I have no reservations in recommending this service to anyone in biblical and Semitic studies who needs to prepare a manuscript for publication.

As Co-Editor of the Journal for the Study of the Old Testament I have seen the splendid work that Duncan Burns does on JSOT and on countless volumes in its Supplement series. I can vouch for the quality of his editorial and production activities. Authors and editors engaging the services of Forthcoming Publications can be confident of a fine service during the ‘forthcoming’ stages of their volume and an excellent result at the end of the publication process.
